Andrew here - and I’ll kick off with an exciting new update to the built-in Zapier AI action step.

Parse files with AI in Zapier (for free!)

As of this week, you can now have it run prompts on files.

Previously, you could only input images, which was pretty limiting.

What this unlocks - If you’ve got any zaps where you’re using something like PDF.co or Docparser to extract data from a PDF (say, one you receive attached to an email or uploaded from a form), you can now cancel your subscription to those tools and move everything inside Zapier.

Zapier gives you free access to OpenAI’s GPT-4 and 5 models.

Same goes for analysing Excel files, Word docs, etc.

Use Zapier + Reddit + AI to generate brand and topic insights

I set out with a mission last week. I want to get a weekly summary of all the discussions about Zapier that happen on Reddit.

Maybe you want to do the same for your brand / competitor / industry?

There’s an existing Reddit integration in Zapier, but it’s pretty useless as you can’t use it to search Reddit.

So I used Reddit’s API + a vibe coding tool called Replit to build my own app and connected it with a webhook in Zapier.

And following my guide below, you can do the same too.

First, create a zap that triggers on your preferred schedule.

Then add a Webhook > GET step.

Then you need to set one query string param, ‘phrase’, containing the word(s) you want to search on Reddit.

Test it, and by default, it’ll return up to 50 of the most recent Reddit posts containing your search phrase.

Now add a Zapier AI step, and add a single input field called “posts”, mapping the ‘Step Output’ field from the webhook step. This is a single field that will contain all the content from all the posts.

Then just add a prompt, and some output fields. For my example, I’ve kept it simple, asking for a quick summary to be output in a “summary” field. But you can go into more details and ask from whatever outputs you want.

Result - you now have a summary you can send by email, to Slack, post on LinkedIn… whatever.
